Organizing Multivalency in Carbohydrate Recognition

Within the existing collection of articles dealing with multivalency this review article focuses on rather small glycoclusters and explores their potentials in terms of helping deciphering 3D structural features and interactions with proteins. One section deals with the “tertiary” considerations of multivalency, and provides some guide-lines about what remains to be achieved at the level of supra-molecularity as regard to manipulation and control.

These consideartions define the next coming challenges that should further explore such effects as density, heterogeneity and orientationlal effects in carbohydrate recognition and identify further parameters providing specificity of biological effects as a consequence of carbohydrate–protein interactions.
