Blood Group ABO and its Variants

The ABO histo-blood group system is the most biologically significant in humans. It is defined by the presence or absence of A and/or B antigens on the red cell membrane. The presence and detection of ABO antigens is a consequence of a complex interplay of known and unknown genetics, biosynthesis, environmental factors and finally the sensitivity and specificity of the diagnostic assay.
