The Lysosomal Potassium Channel Represents a Previously Undescribed Fold

The lysosomal potassium channel (TMEM175) is a lysosomal K+ channel is a transmembrane protein which maintains the membrane potential and pH stability in lysosomes. The resolution of the crystal structure of TMEM175 channel from Chamaesiphon minutus, reveals a previously undescribed architecture of the tetrameric cation channel whose ion selectivity mechanism appears to be distinct from that of the classical K+ channel family.
