Thisbe K. Lindhorst Elected President of German Chemical Society
Thisbe K. Lindhorst (University of Kiel) has been elected President of the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh ; German Chemical Society) by the Board of the GDCh, and will take office on January 1, 2016.

Thisbe Lindhorst is professor of Organic and Biological Chemistry at the University of Kiel. Focusing her long term research on the biological function of the glycocalix, Thisbe Lindhorst has contributed and still contributes to major advancements on the following areas :
• synthesis of carbohydrate dendrimers
• synthesis of various glycomimetics and glycoconjugates
• synthesis of functional and multifunctional glycoconjugates
• investigation of bacterial adhesion mediated by saccharides
• investigation of carbohydrate binding to the bacterial lectin FimH
• investigation of cellular adhesion to surfaces, glyco-SAMs
• conformational control in carbohydrate recognition
• sweet switches : photosensitive glycomimetics
• synthesis and testing of photoactive carbohydrate ligands
• molecular modeling of carbohydrate-protein interactions
• design of non-carbohydrate ligands
