The features of the crystal structure of Human Heparanase are reported along with details of the substrate-binding and sulfate-recognition motifs occurring in the course of the interactions. Heparanase Sulfate-mediated breakdown of Heparan sulfate in the Extra Cellular Matrix has several effects on the behavior of nearby cells with subsequent physiological consequences some of the detrimental ones being related to inflammation and cancerous growth.
